The Baby Gear I Wish Someone Had Told Me About
Everyone gives you the obvious list. Crib. Car seat. Stroller. Diapers. Yes, obviously. But there is a whole category of baby gear that nobody really talks about until you are in the thick of the newborn stage and desperately texting mom friends at midnight asking why nobody warned you about this.
Consider this that warning. These are the things I have either already bought or that are on my list specifically because multiple experienced moms told me I would regret not having them.
The Haakaa Silicone Pump
If you plan to breastfeed, the Haakaa is the thing I hear about constantly. It is a simple silicone pump you attach to the opposite side while nursing to catch letdown, and it collects milk you would otherwise just lose. No batteries, no cords, no assembly. Just genius. I already have mine ordered and I am putting a couple extra in the hospital bag.
A Portable Bassinet or Dock-a-Tot Style Lounger
Being able to set baby down safely in whatever room you are in, without dragging the whole bassinet around, is something people talk about with real emotion. A portable lounger or travel bassinet means baby can be near you during the day without you being tied to one spot. Check the safety ratings on whatever you choose since not all loungers are safe for unsupervised sleep.
Frida Baby Products Across the Board
I mentioned the NoseFrida already but the Frida Baby line deserves a broader shoutout. The Frida Baby windi for gas, the nail grinder instead of clippers, the medicine dispenser pacifier. Each of these sounds strange until you need it at 1 AM, and then it sounds like the greatest invention ever made.
You can grab a Frida Baby bundle on Amazon that covers most of the basics in one shot.
The Velcro Swaddle
A muslin swaddle wrap is beautiful. It is also impossible to do correctly at 3 AM when you are half asleep and your baby is screaming. The Velcro swaddle, where you just wrap and stick, is the thing nobody glamorizes but everyone uses. Add it to your registry right now.
An Extra Changing Pad Cover (or Three)
This one sounds boring but hear me out. Blowouts happen. They happen fast and they happen at the worst times. If you only have one changing pad cover and it needs to be washed, you either have to wait or improvise. Buy three. They are cheap and this is not a situation where you want to be caught short.
A Good Baby Carrier
I know carriers are talked about, but specifically the kind you can put on and take off without help, because sometimes your partner is not there and you have a screaming baby and two hands that need to do other things. Research the ergonomic options and find one that works for your body size. It is genuinely life changing.
What was your sneaky MVP baby item that nobody warned you about? I want to know. Drop it in the comments.

So glad you are here. xo, Pam
