Baby Registry Essentials: What You Actually Need vs What Just Sounds Good
Building a baby registry sounds fun until you are actually doing it and you realize you have no idea what half of this stuff is or whether you actually need it. Every list online tells you to add everything, and then you end up with a registry that has 200 items and no real guidance on what matters.

I have tried to cut through the noise. Here is what I actually think you need versus what just sounds good on paper.
The Non-Negotiables
Car seat. This is not optional and it is not the place to cut corners. Research your specific vehicle, read the safety ratings, and buy the one that fits your life. You cannot leave the hospital without it.
A safe sleep surface for the first months, whether that is a bassinet or a crib. The AAP guidelines are clear on this and worth reading. Then add a good crib mattress.
Stroller. This is where people get very overwhelmed. My advice is to think about your actual lifestyle first. Do you walk a lot in Kansas City parks? Do you need something that fits in a small trunk? The UPPAbaby Vista is a favorite for longevity and quality, but it is an investment. Know your budget and your needs before you start looking.
The Things That Sound Good But Are Often Skippable
A bottle warmer. Most babies will take a bottle at room temperature or slightly warm, and you can achieve that in a bowl of warm water for free. A dedicated warmer is a counter-space trade-off that many parents do not end up using.
A wipe warmer. I know people who swear by these and I know people who have never opened the box. Babies adapt.
A dedicated baby food maker. A regular blender does the same thing for a fraction of the price.
What to Add to the Registry That People Forget
Burp cloths in quantities that feel excessive. You will use all of them. Ditto for onesies in the 0-3 and 3-6 month ranges, because those sizes last longer than newborn. A curated baby must-haves list on Amazon can help fill in the smaller items efficiently.
A baby monitor that you actually trust. A solid white noise machine. A carrier that works for your body. These are the things that make day-to-day life easier and they are often the things people forget to register for.
My Honest Take on the Registry Process
Add the big things you have researched and feel confident about. Add plenty of consumables (diapers, wipes, laundry detergent, diaper cream). Leave room for people to buy you things that surprise you. And do not stress about having the perfect registry, because the truth is you will figure out what your specific baby needs once they are actually here.
