Beautiful outdoor restaurant patio with string lights and greenery

6 KC Patios Worth Sitting On This Summer

Kansas City summers are honestly perfect patio weather, at least for the parts of the day that are not trying to melt you. The trick is knowing where to go. We have some genuinely great outdoor spots in this city, and I have spent a lot of time doing the very difficult research of sitting outside with good food and cold drinks.

Here are my favorites right now for summer 2026.

Char Bar, Westport

If you want great Kansas City barbecue with a patio that actually feels like a party, Char Bar is it. The Westport location has a big outdoor setup that is perfect for groups, and they have a solid cocktail and beer lineup to go with the smoked meats. It is lively, it is fun, and the burnt ends are not a mistake.

Earl’s Premier, Brookside

This one is for when you want to feel a little fancy without trying too hard. Earl’s Premier in Brookside has a patio that nearly doubles the indoor seating, and the vibe is relaxed but elevated. The oysters and lobster rolls are excellent, and a frozen gin and tonic on a hot afternoon is genuinely one of summer’s better offerings. Brookside is such a good neighborhood to walk around after, too.

Outdoor patio dining in summer

Percheron at the Crossroads Hotel

A rooftop bar with a skyline view in the Crossroads Arts District, and a Mediterranean menu that keeps pace with the setting. Percheron feels like you are in a different city for a few hours, which is exactly what summer calls for. The zero-proof drink menu is also genuinely thoughtful if you are skipping alcohol this season.

Electric Park at J. Rieger Distillery

This one is a full experience. J. Rieger built out an outdoor space with swings, fire pits, a garden bar, and live music on Thursday nights. The Boone Hill frozen cocktails are iconic and they taste better in an Adirondack chair with string lights around you. Great date spot, great girls-night spot, honestly just a great any-night spot.

Penny’s in the Village, Prairie Village

For something a little more low-key, Penny’s in Prairie Village is a Thai street food restaurant with a patio surrounded by greenery that feels genuinely serene. The Lemongrass Basil Margarita is worth ordering just on principle. It is the kind of place where you sit down intending to stay an hour and end up staying three.

Society, Crossroads

Right in the heart of the Crossroads, Society is a patio bar with views of the Arts District and a central fire pit for when the evenings cool down. It is a great spot to end up after dinner somewhere nearby, or to start the night before heading somewhere else. The energy is good, the people-watching is great, and the downtown skyline at dusk is always worth it.

Get Outside This Summer

Kansas City does summer right when you know where to find it. Any of these spots will give you a good reason to be outside, and I would honestly not say no to visiting all of them before September.

If you have a patio favorite I missed, drop it in the comments. My list always has room.

So glad you are here. Pam
