Sunscreen That Does Not Feel Terrible (The Ones I Actually Use)
I spent years skipping sunscreen because everything I tried either left a white cast, felt greasy, broke me out, or sat on top of my skin like a film I could not get past. Then I started doing actual research and trying options specifically designed for everyday facial wear, and it changed everything. SPF is non-negotiable, especially during pregnancy when melasma risk goes up. But the formula absolutely matters.
Here are the sunscreens I actually use and love.
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40
This is the one that converted me. It goes on completely clear, has no white cast, feels like a silky primer, and works under makeup without pilling. It is fragrance-free, reef-safe, and lightweight enough that I forget I am wearing it. At around $38 it is an investment but I repurchase it without hesitation. Find it at Sephora or on Amazon.
EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46
This is the one dermatologists recommend for acne-prone and sensitive skin, and for good reason. It is fragrance-free, niacinamide-infused, lightweight, and somehow works beautifully under makeup. I use this during pregnancy specifically and it has not caused a single breakout. Find it at Sephora, your dermatologist’s office, or on Amazon.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Milk SPF 100
For body sunscreen, this is what I trust. It absorbs quickly, does not feel sticky, and SPF 100 gives me real peace of mind in summer. I put this on any exposed skin and it genuinely stays on. You can find it on Amazon.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion SPF 30
If you want an affordable facial sunscreen that actually feels good, this is a solid choice. The gel texture is light, it does not break anyone out, and the hydrating formula is a nice bonus. Under $15 and available everywhere including Amazon.
The One That Did Not Work
A mineral sunscreen that I will not name left the most stubborn white cast I have ever seen on my skin. It looked like I had rubbed chalk on my face. Mineral formulas can work beautifully but they require more research to find one that blends well on your specific skin tone. Chemical formulas like the ones above are generally easier for everyday use.
