Blood Orange Margarita
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how stunning a blood orange margarita looks? That deep ruby red color is completely natural and it tastes every bit as incredible as it looks. Tart, citrusy, perfectly balanced with a hit of tequila and that classic salted rim. This is the cocktail that makes everyone at the table immediately say “wait what is THAT” and you get to casually say “oh just a blood orange margarita I threw together.” You are welcome in advance.
Blood oranges are at their peak in winter and early spring but honestly this recipe works year round if you swap in a mix of regular orange juice and a splash of pomegranate for that gorgeous color. Either way it is a total showstopper and takes about 5 minutes to make. Perfect for girls night, Taco Tuesday, or literally any Tuesday that needs a little color.
What You Need
Besides fresh blood oranges, you will want a good cocktail shaker to get that perfect chill on the drink and some beautiful margarita glasses because presentation matters when something looks this good. Use fresh juice only here, bottled juice just will not give you that bright vibrant flavor you are going for.

Getting the Balance Right
Start with the amounts in the recipe card and then taste before you pour. Every batch of blood oranges is a little different in sweetness and tartness, so you may want to add a touch more agave if yours are on the tart side. I like mine pretty tart and citrus forward but if you prefer it sweeter just bump up the agave by half an ounce.

Notes

Making a Batch
This recipe doubles and triples easily for a crowd. Make a big batch in a pitcher without ice, refrigerate up to 4 hours, then pour over ice and shake individual servings or just pour straight from the pitcher. It is a total crowd-pleaser at any gathering and the color in the pitcher is just absolutely breathtaking.
Add this to your cocktail rotation immediately. You will be making it on repeat all season long. Cheers to the most beautiful margarita you will ever sip!
XO, Pam
