Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies
Every kitchen needs one chocolate chip cookie recipe that just works, and this is mine. I have made these for bake sales, new neighbors, sad days, happy days, and approximately one thousand random Tuesday afternoons when my kids decided we simply had to have cookies. They never let me down.
They are soft and chewy in the middle with those perfectly crisp golden edges, and the dough comes together in one bowl with stuff you probably already have. This is the kind of recipe you end up knowing by heart.

My secrets for the best texture
Two things make all the difference. First, do not overbake them. Pull the cookies out when the centers still look a touch underdone, because they keep cooking on the hot pan and set up into that perfect chewy texture as they cool. Second, use both granulated and brown sugar. The brown sugar brings moisture and that little hint of caramel that makes them taste like a hug.
A heavy duty rimmed baking sheet bakes more evenly than a flimsy one, and a cookie scoop gives you uniform cookies that all finish at the same time.

Make them yours
I usually go with semisweet chips, but you can absolutely mix in dark chocolate chunks, a handful of toasted walnuts, or a sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top right before baking. Good chocolate chips really do make a difference here, so grab a brand you love.
If you want bakery-style thick cookies, chill the dough for half an hour first. If you want them fast because someone is melting down, scoop and bake right away. Both are correct.

Notes
Go preheat that oven
Make a batch, hide a few for yourself, and share the rest. These are the cookies people remember, and I have a feeling they are about to become your go-to too.
So glad you are here.
