The Drugstore Dupes I Actually Repurchase (and 2 That Were Not Worth It)
I have bought a lot of beauty products I did not need. We can just say that out loud and move on. But somewhere in all that buying I figured out which cheap versions actually hold up next to the expensive ones, and which “dupes” the internet swears by that are, in my real-life experience, not it.
So this is the honest list. The drugstore picks I genuinely repurchase, paired with the splurge originals they stand in for, plus two dupes at the bottom that let me down so you do not have to find out the hard way. Heads up, some of these are affiliate links, which just means if you grab something I get a tiny commission at no extra cost to you. Only things I actually use made the cut.

The glowy skin tint
The famous one here is the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter, and it is genuinely gorgeous. But the e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter gives me that same lit-from-within look for a fraction of the price, and I have repurchased it three times now. On a rushed morning I mix a pump into my moisturizer and call it a face.

The “my lashes but better” mascara
Too Faced Better Than Sex is the cult classic, and I get the hype. But the L’Orรฉal Telescopic Lift mascara does the lengthening and lifting just as well for me, and at drugstore prices I do not feel precious about replacing it every few months like you are supposed to. This is a forever-in-my-cart situation.
The splurge version, if you are curious, is Too Faced Better Than Sex.
The grippy primer
Milk Hydro Grip walked so the e.l.f. Power Grip Primer could run. Same tacky, gel-to-grip feel that actually keeps my makeup put through a Kansas City summer, and it is under ten dollars. I keep a backup in the drawer at all times.
Here is the original Milk Hydro Grip Primer for reference.
The concealer that does the most
Tarte Shape Tape has earned its reputation, but for everyday under-eye and blemish duty the e.l.f. Camo Concealer covers just as hard for me. Full coverage, long wear, costs about what a fancy coffee does.
The original is Tarte Shape Tape.
The everyday moisturizer
This one is less a dupe and more a “why would I pay more” pick. My skin is happiest on plain old CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. It is the one product on this list a dermatologist would actually high-five me for. I buy the big pump bottle and never think about it again.

Now the two that flopped
I promised honesty, so here it is. The viral drugstore setting spray everyone calls a dupe did absolutely nothing to keep my makeup on through a humid afternoon. By school pickup I looked like I had run there. Save your money and just get the real Urban Decay All Nighter if longevity is your whole goal, because the cheap version was a swing and a miss for me.
The other letdown was a budget “skin tint foundation” that oxidized into a completely different, much oranger shade about an hour in. No thank you. Some things are cheap for a reason, and matching my actual face apparently was not in the budget.
The takeaway
Most of the time the drugstore version is genuinely all you need, and I would rather spend the difference on a sitter and a night out. But a couple of splurges earn their keep, and knowing which is which is the whole game. If you have a dupe you swear by, drop it in the comments. My cart always has room.
xo, Pam
