5 Drugstore Sunscreens That Actually Work (And That I Actually Use)
Every summer I swear I am going to be better about sunscreen. And every summer I learn the hard way that I was not. So this year, I actually did the research, tried a bunch of options, and landed on a solid drugstore lineup that I am actually going to stick with because it does not feel like wearing paste.
Full disclosure: some of these are affiliate links, which just means I get a small commission at no extra cost to you. All picks are ones I actually use or have tested.
CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30
This one is the MVP. Moisturizer and SPF in one step, and it does not leave that white cast that makes you look like you are auditioning for a ghost movie. It has ceramides and hyaluronic acid, which means your skin is actually being taken care of while you are protecting it. Under makeup it is seamless. Grab it on Amazon.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 55
This is the one I keep in my car because I always forget to put sunscreen on before I leave the house. The dry-touch formula absorbs fast and does not feel sticky, which is a miracle in Kansas City July humidity. SPF 55, broad spectrum, and under $15. Find it here.
Banana Boat Light as Air SPF 50
I used to skip body sunscreen because everything felt so heavy and gross. This one changed that for me. It is genuinely lightweight, it does not transfer onto everything you touch, and SPF 50 means you are actually protected. Perfect for pool days and weekend errands when you are going to be outside more than you think. Shop it on Amazon.

Sun Bum Original SPF 50
Okay the smell alone makes summer feel real. Sun Bum has that coconut-y beach scent that I genuinely look forward to putting on. The formula is creamy without being heavy, and it plays nicely with self-tanner if you are doing a combo approach. The SPF 50 coverage is solid and it does not pill under makeup. Get it on Amazon.
Coppertone Sport SPF 50
If you are actually going to sweat, exercise, or be in the water, this is your pick. It is sweat-resistant and water-resistant for 80 minutes, which is about how long it takes for me to decide I am done at the pool. Does not run into your eyes, which is a real requirement when it is 95 degrees outside. Find it on Amazon.
The Bottom Line
You do not need to spend a lot to protect your skin this summer. Any of these will do the job, and once you find one you actually like putting on, you will use it. That is the whole secret. Start with the CeraVe AM for your face, grab something for your body, and just put it on.
Drop your current SPF in the comments, I am always curious what everyone else is using.
xo, Pam
