Cozy fall home interior with warm tones

Fall Home Updates You Can Do Right Now

Fall is my favorite time of year to be at home. Something about the shorter days and cooler air makes me want to nest, update, and make everything feel cozier and warmer. The good news is that transitioning your home for fall does not take much. A few targeted changes make a huge difference.

Here is what I do every year and what you can do right now.

Swap Out Your Throw Pillows

Put away the light linens and bring in something with more weight and warmth. Boucle, chunky knit, velvet, and corduroy all feel appropriately fall. Stick to a palette of warm neutrals, rust, terracotta, camel, and deep greens. Fall throw pillow covers on Amazon.

Add a Heavier Throw Blanket

Trade the light linen throw for a chunky knit or sherpa blanket in a warm tone. It is practical for cooler evenings and it completely changes the feel of a sofa or reading chair. Anthropologie through ShopMy has gorgeous fall throws that are worth the splurge, or Amazon has great affordable versions. Cozy fall throw blankets on Amazon.

Switch to a Fall Candle

Put away the clean linen and ocean scents and bring out something warm. Fig, amber, cedar, clove, apple, pumpkin spice if that is your thing. One fall candle burning in the evening changes the entire atmosphere of a room. Fall candles on Amazon.

Bring in Natural Elements

A bowl of mini gourds or acorns on the coffee table. A branch of dried eucalyptus or cotton stems in a vase. A small pumpkin on the entryway table. Fall decorating looks best when it is natural and simple rather than over-the-top themed. Dried cotton stems on Amazon.

Add a Fall Wreath to the Front Door

A simple fall wreath on the front door takes two minutes and immediately signals the season from the outside. I love a dried floral or eucalyptus wreath that is more neutral than the typical orange-and-black Halloween aesthetic. Something that works all season long. Neutral fall wreaths on Amazon.

Switch Your Lightbulbs

If you have any bulbs in the daylight or cool white range, swap them for warm white 2700K bulbs for fall and winter. Warm light makes everything feel cozier and more inviting. This is a tiny change that makes an outsized impact in the evening. Warm white bulbs on Amazon.

Layer Your Bedding

Add a heavier duvet or a folded blanket at the foot of the bed. Swap cotton pillowcases for something softer and warmer. Your bedroom should feel like a cocoon in fall, and it just takes a few small additions to get there.

Fall home updates do not need to be a project. Pull out a few things, add a few things, and suddenly your home feels like it belongs to the season. Tell me in the comments what your favorite fall home update is.

So glad you are here. Pam
