Lash Extensions vs Falsies vs a Really Good Mascara: A Breakdown
Lashes are one of those beauty topics where everyone has a strong opinion. I have done all three: lash extensions for a solid six months, strip falsies for years before that, and I have tried basically every mascara on the market. Each option has a real place depending on your lifestyle, budget, and how much effort you want to put in daily. Here is my honest take on all three.
Lash Extensions: The Good and the Real Costs
I loved having lash extensions. Waking up looking put together without doing anything is genuinely wonderful. But here is the full picture: a full set costs $150 to $200, fills every two to three weeks at $60 to $80 each, and you cannot get them wet for 24 hours after, cannot use oil-based products near your eyes, and cannot really rub your eyes. When I was pregnant and my eyes were dry and itchy constantly, having extensions became more annoying than they were worth. I also noticed my natural lashes thinned noticeably after stopping. I would do them again for a special season but they are not my everyday lifestyle choice right now.
Strip Falsies: My Favorite for Special Occasions
Once you get the hang of applying them, strip lashes are incredible for events and photos. They make your eyes look dramatically bigger and more awake. Velour lashes are my favorite for a natural look that blends with your real lashes seamlessly. Duo lash glue in dark tone is what I use because it dries dark and hides in the lash line. Find falsies options on Amazon. The learning curve is real but once you have applied them a few times it takes under two minutes.
A Really Good Mascara: The Everyday Winner
For daily life, an excellent mascara beats everything else in terms of convenience, cost, and actual lash health. Too Faced Better Than Sex and the Benefit They’re Real both give dramatic results that look extension-like in photos without any of the upkeep. The Maybelline Sky High is my affordable pick that genuinely competes. Find mascara options on Amazon.
Which One Is Right for You
If you have a low-maintenance beauty routine and budget is not a concern, extensions are a lifestyle upgrade worth trying. If you want something dramatic for specific occasions, learn to apply falsies and keep a pair handy. If you want great lashes every day with zero upkeep cost, invest in finding the mascara that works best for your lash type. I am firmly in the mascara camp right now and completely content there.
