Peach bourbon lemonade cocktail in glass with peach garnish

Peach Bourbon Lemonade

There is one drink that officially signals summer has arrived in my house, and it is this Peach Bourbon Lemonade. The second fresh peaches start showing up at the farmers market, I am blending them down and mixing them with fresh squeezed lemon and a good pour of bourbon. It is sweet, tart, a little smoky, and completely perfect for sipping on the porch while the kids run through the sprinkler. It has become our Friday evening tradition every July and August without fail.

Fresh, ripe peaches are the whole key here. When peaches are in season, they are so naturally sweet and fragrant that you need very little else to make something spectacular. A squeeze of honey to balance the tartness of the lemon, some quality bourbon, and a lot of ice. That is your whole drink right there.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe peaches pitted and roughly chopped
  • 3/4 cup fresh lemon juice about 5 to 6 lemons
  • 3 tbsp honey adjust to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 6 oz bourbon about 1.5 oz per glass
  • ice
  • peach slices and fresh mint for garnish

Method

  1. Blend peaches and water until completely smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if you prefer a silky texture, or keep the pulp for a more rustic drink.
  2. Whisk together peach puree, lemon juice, and honey until honey is fully dissolved.
  3. Taste and adjust sweetness with more honey or tartness with more lemon.
  4. Fill four glasses with ice. Add 1.5 oz bourbon to each glass.
  5. Pour peach lemonade mixture over bourbon and ice. Stir gently.
  6. Garnish with a peach slice and mint sprig. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use ripe in-season peaches for the best flavor. Make a big batch of the peach lemonade base and refrigerate it for up to 3 days, then pour over ice and add bourbon per glass when ready to serve.

Why Fresh Peaches Make All the Difference

Do not even think about reaching for peach syrup or canned peaches here. In-season fresh peaches have a floral, almost perfume-like fragrance and a natural sweetness that you simply cannot replicate any other way. Blend them until completely smooth and strain out the pulp if you want a cleaner, more elegant drink, or leave it in for a thicker, more rustic smoothie-cocktail vibe. Both are delicious, just different in texture and style.

Choosing the Right Bourbon

You do not need an expensive bourbon for this, but you do want something smooth enough that you actually enjoy drinking it. I look for a wheated bourbon with caramel and vanilla notes because those flavors play beautifully alongside the peach and lemon. Avoid anything too smoky or heavily oak-forward for this particular drink. Something you would happily sip on its own is usually the right call when mixing with fresh fruit.

For a non-alcoholic version, simply leave out the bourbon and add a splash of sparkling water instead. The peach lemonade on its own is genuinely one of the best drinks I make all summer. Kids go absolutely wild for it.

Make It Your Own

Add a few fresh basil leaves to the blender with the peaches for an unexpected herbal twist that somehow makes everything taste more sophisticated. A tiny pinch of cayenne or a few slices of fresh ginger blended in adds warmth that makes this drink genuinely hard to stop drinking. Make a big pitcher of the peach lemonade base, refrigerate it for up to three days, and just add the bourbon glass by glass as needed. It is the perfect make-ahead party drink and it gets even more flavorful as it sits.

The Final Sip

Peach Bourbon Lemonade is summer in a glass. It is the kind of drink you make once and then spend the rest of the season perfecting. The combination of fresh fruit, bright citrus, and warm bourbon is absolutely timeless, and once you have made it from scratch you will never want the bottled version again. Pour one, find a comfortable spot outside, and drink it slowly. You have earned it. xo, Pam
