My Favorite Pregnancy-Safe Skincare Products
One of the first things I did when I found out I was pregnant was go through my skincare routine and realize I had no idea which products were actually safe. Retinoids, salicylic acid, certain essential oils, even some vitamin C formulations show up on the avoid list, and that sent me into a deep research spiral I am only now coming out of.
Here is what I have actually landed on for pregnancy-safe skincare that works and does not make me feel like I am compromising everything.
A Gentle Cleanser First
I switched to a simple, fragrance-free cleanser early in pregnancy because my skin got more sensitive than I expected. Anything too active or too stripping started to irritate me in ways it did not before. A gentle cleanser removes what it needs to without being harsh, and that is genuinely all your skin needs from a cleanser during pregnancy.
Burt’s Bees Mama Line
The Burt’s Bees Mama belly butter is one of the best things I have added to my pregnancy routine. It is formulated specifically for pregnancy, free of the ingredients you need to avoid, and it smells good without being overwhelming. I use it morning and night on my belly and sides and my skin has been comfortable and hydrated through most of this pregnancy.
Earth Mama Products
Earth Mama is a brand built entirely around pregnancy and postpartum safe products, and they are genuinely good. Their belly oil is lightweight, absorbs well, and again is formulated to be safe during pregnancy. I alternate between the belly butter and the oil depending on how dry my skin is that day.
Stretch Mark Cream and Belly Oil on Amazon
If you want more affordable options in this category, there are solid picks on Amazon. I have been using a pregnancy belly oil and stretch mark cream alongside the Burt’s Bees products, and between them I have stayed on top of the dryness and stretch that comes with a growing bump. Whether these prevent stretch marks is genuinely debated, but keeping the skin hydrated and comfortable during the stretching process absolutely helps.
Mineral Sunscreen Every Day
Chemical sunscreens have a few ingredients that are generally recommended to avoid during pregnancy, so mineral sunscreen is the pregnancy-safe choice. Look for zinc oxide as the active ingredient and you are good. There are some genuinely good mineral face sunscreens on Amazon that do not leave a strong white cast and actually wear well under makeup.
What I Paused
My retinol. My salicylic acid toner. A few actives that I loved before but that are on the general avoidance list during pregnancy. I miss my retinol, honestly. But it will be there after baby arrives and it is a very easy trade to make.
