Roasted Parmesan Asparagus
Some recipes are so simple they feel almost too easy to share, and then you make them and realize that simplicity is exactly the point. Roasted Parmesan Asparagus is one of those. Six ingredients, 20 minutes, and it comes out looking and tasting like something from a nice restaurant.
I make this constantly — as a starter before a pasta dinner, as a side dish, or honestly as a snack when asparagus is in season and I just want something delicious. The high heat roasting makes the tips get a little caramelized and almost crispy, and the parmesan melts right into the spears and creates this savory, nutty coating that is just perfect.

Method
- Preheat oven to 425F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange asparagus spears in a single layer on the baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil, add garlic, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Toss to coat.
- Squeeze half the lemon over the asparagus and spread back into a single layer.
- Roast 10-12 minutes until tender-crisp and starting to caramelize at the tips.
- Remove from oven and immediately shower with freshly grated parmesan while still hot.
- Squeeze remaining lemon over top, add a pinch of flaky sea salt, and serve immediately.
Notes
The Simplest Prep
The only real prep step is trimming the woody ends off the asparagus. The easiest way to do this is to just snap them — hold each spear and bend it near the bottom and it will naturally break right at the spot where it gets tough. Or you can line them all up and cut about an inch and a half off the bottoms. Either works.
High Heat Is the Secret
425F is the move for asparagus. Lower temperatures make it go limp and soggy. At high heat it gets tender on the inside while the outside caramelizes slightly and the tips turn almost crispy. It is genuinely a different experience from steamed asparagus and so much better.

The Parmesan Question
Please grate your own parmesan. I know, I know, the pre-grated stuff is right there in the container and it is so convenient, but the freshly grated stuff melts completely differently and the flavor is so much more intense. I have been using a Microplane zester to grate my parmesan and it gives you this feathery, fluffy parmesan that just melts into the hot asparagus instantly. It is one of those small tools that genuinely changes your cooking.

Make It Even Better
A little squeeze of lemon at the end is not optional in my house. The brightness cuts through the richness of the parmesan beautifully. You could also add some lemon zest, a drizzle of balsamic glaze, or a few shavings of prosciutto on top. For a crunchier version, add a handful of panko breadcrumbs tossed in olive oil to the pan for the last 3 minutes.

A Versatile Go-To
This asparagus works as an elegant appetizer, a quick side dish for any protein, or even as a topping for pizza or flatbread. It is one of those recipes that looks impressive but takes almost no effort, which makes it perfect for entertaining or just a regular Tuesday.
Hope you love it as much as we do! xo, Pam
