The Skincare Routine That Finally Worked for My Pregnancy Skin

When I got pregnant, I figured my skin would just kind of do its thing and I would deal with it. I was not prepared for the full chaos that followed. Breakouts where I never had them before, dryness in spots that used to be oily, and a general sensitivity that made my old routine feel like sandpaper. It took me a while to find what actually worked, but I finally did, and I want to share it because I know I am not the only one going through this.

Everything I use now is pregnancy-safe. I ran my routine by my OB and I did my own research on ingredients to avoid (retinol, high-dose salicylic acid, hydroquinone all got cut). Here is what made the cut and why.

Gentle Cleanser: Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser

I switched to this early in the first trimester when my skin started freaking out and everything else felt too harsh. It is fragrance-free, super gentle, and leaves my face feeling clean without stripping anything. It does not foam up dramatically, which actually means it is not wrecking your skin barrier. You can find it on Amazon and it is so affordable I always keep a backup.

Vitamin C Serum: TruSkin Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C is pregnancy-safe and it has been a lifesaver for the dullness that hit me in the second trimester. I use this one from TruSkin every morning under my moisturizer and sunscreen. It brightens, helps with any uneven tone, and does not irritate my newly sensitive skin. Grab it on Amazon and it comes in a big bottle that lasts forever.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum: Alya Skin Hyaluronic Serum

Hydration became my number one priority once I realized pregnancy was pulling moisture from my skin constantly. This serum layers under my moisturizer beautifully and I notice a real difference on the days I skip it. It plumps everything and keeps that tight dry feeling away. Look for it at Sephora or Amazon.

Moisturizer: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

I know this sounds basic but the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is genuinely one of the best moisturizers I have ever used, and it is pregnancy-safe, fragrance-free, and dermatologist-recommended for a reason. The big tub lasts months. My skin drinks it up. No irritation, no breakouts. Just calm, hydrated skin. Available everywhere including Amazon.

Sunscreen: EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46

Pregnancy can increase your risk of melasma, so sunscreen is not optional right now. EltaMD UV Clear is lightweight, works under makeup, and does not leave a white cast. It is a bit of a splurge but worth every penny for the protection. I got mine at Sephora but you can also find it on Amazon.

Night Cream: Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter

I know this is technically a belly product but I use a tiny bit on my face at night when my skin feels really depleted. It is pregnancy-safe, deeply nourishing, and my skin always looks better in the morning when I use it. Plus it smells amazing. You can grab the full belly butter on Amazon because you will need it for your bump anyway.

What I Cut

I dropped my old retinol serum, my AHA exfoliant, and a fragrance-heavy face oil I used to love. My skin actually thanked me. Sometimes pregnancy forces a reset that turns out to be a good thing.
