Smoky Black Bean Dip
Okay I am about to change your snack game forever and all it takes is a can of black beans and a food processor. This smoky black bean dip is one of those things I make constantly because it is literally 5 minutes, requires zero cooking, and tastes like something from a really good Mexican restaurant. The chipotle pepper is the secret weapon — it adds this incredible smoky, slightly spicy depth that takes it from ordinary to absolutely addictive.
I bring this to every party and potluck and people always think I bought it from somewhere fancy. The truth is it is two cans of beans, some pantry spices, and a food processor. That is the whole thing. I linked the food processor I use on Amazon below — having a good one makes this even faster and I use mine constantly for dips, sauces, and so much more.
The Chipotle Makes All the Difference
Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce are smoked jalapeรฑos packed in a tangy tomato sauce and they are a total pantry MVP. You only need 1-2 peppers for this recipe and the rest of the can freezes beautifully (I freeze them individually on a sheet pan then transfer to a bag). Start with one pepper and taste before adding more — they bring real heat and smokiness and you can always add but you cannot take away.

Smoky Black Bean Dip
Ingredients
Method
- Add black beans, garlic, chipotle peppers, lime juice, olive oil, cumin, smoked paprika, and salt to a food processor.
- Process until very smooth, scraping down the sides as needed. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust seasoning. Transfer to a serving bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and serve with tortilla chips.
Notes
How to Serve It
Tortilla chips are the classic but do not stop there. This dip is incredible with warm pita, fresh veggies, or spread inside a wrap or quesadilla. I love spooning it over tacos as a base layer, adding it to burrito bowls, or using it as a spread on a sandwich in place of mayo or hummus. It goes with so many things and elevates everything it touches.

Storage and Make-Ahead Tips
This dip keeps beautifully in the fridge for up to 5 days in a sealed container. The flavor actually gets better after a day as everything melds together. It does not freeze great once fully blended so just make a fresh batch when you need one — it takes 5 minutes anyway! Before serving from the fridge let it come to room temperature for about 15 minutes and give it a good stir.
