Outdoor table with a summer brunch spread

An Easy Summer Brunch Board for When People Pop Over

There is a specific kind of panic that hits when someone texts at 9am asking if they can swing by for coffee, and your house smells like last night and your fridge is a mystery. This is the post for that exact moment.

A summer brunch board is my favorite trick because it looks like you tried very hard and it requires almost no actual cooking. You are mostly arranging things on a board until it looks abundant, and abundant is the whole aesthetic. Nobody needs to know it took you twelve minutes.

Start with a board big enough to feel generous

The single biggest upgrade to a grazing spread is surface area. You want things to look like they are spilling over, not lonely. A large wooden serving board does most of the heavy lifting, and it doubles as a cheese board the rest of the year. If you are hosting outside, even better. Everything looks prettier in morning light on the patio.

The build, no recipe required

I think of a brunch board in four zones. Something flaky, something fresh, something to spread, and something a little sweet. Croissants or mini muffins for the flaky. A pile of berries and grapes for fresh. Whipped cream cheese, butter, and a good jam for spreading. Then chocolate or a few squares of something sweet to round it out. Tuck in soft boiled eggs or a little smoked salmon if you want it to feel fancier.

The little touches that make it look intentional

Pour juice into actual glassware, not the carton on the table. A set of pretty drinking glasses and a few small serving bowls for jam and berries are what take it from snack pile to spread. Fresh flowers from the grocery store, even the five dollar bunch, finish it.

Make it work for a crowd or just you

The beauty of a board is it scales. Two people, keep it to one zone of each. Eight people, double everything and add a second board. There is no wrong amount, only the amount that makes your table look happy.

The takeaway

Hosting does not have to mean cooking. Sometimes it just means arranging good things beautifully and pouring the coffee while it is hot. If you put together a board this summer, I would love to see what you tucked on it. Tell me in the comments.

xo, Pam
