Watermelon Agua Fresca
When the temperature climbs and a regular glass of water just is not cutting it, agua fresca is what my whole family reaches for. It is basically blended fruit and water, light and not too sweet, and it tastes like the most refreshing thing on the planet. Watermelon is my absolute favorite version, because is there anything that screams summer louder than watermelon?
I love that this is barely even a recipe. You toss ripe watermelon, water, and a squeeze of lime in the blender, and that is pretty much it. No syrup to make, no fancy anything. It is the drink I keep in a big pitcher in the fridge all summer so there is always something cold and hydrating to pour for the kids after they have been running through the sprinkler.

Pick a really ripe watermelon
The whole flavor here depends on your watermelon, so go for one that is super sweet and ripe. If it is, you will barely need to add any sweetener at all. A ripe watermelon should feel heavy for its size and have a creamy yellow spot where it rested on the ground. Little melon shopping tip from me to you.

Make it a grown up sipper too
This watermelon agua fresca is perfect just as it is for the whole family, kids included. But if you are hosting an adults only happy hour, a splash of tequila or a little sparkling wine turns it into the prettiest, easiest summer cocktail. I usually keep the big batch virgin and let folks spike their own glass, so everyone is happy.

Watermelon Agua Fresca
Ingredients
Method
- Add the watermelon, water, and lime juice to a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
- Taste and add honey or sugar only if your watermelon needs it. Blend again briefly.
- For a smoother drink, strain through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher. For more texture, skip this step.
- Chill until cold, then serve over ice with mint and lime.
Notes
Stay cool out there
This is one of those simple little things that just makes summer feel more special. Keep a pitcher ready, pour it over lots of ice, and soak up the season. We only get so many of these warm, slow days.
So glad you are here.
xo, Pam
