What to Wear to a World Cup Match in Kansas City Summer Heat
Let me set the scene. It is late June in Kansas City, you are sitting in a stadium with no shade, the humidity is doing its thing, and you still want to look cute in approximately nine thousand photos. Dressing for a World Cup match in our summer is a real skill, and I have opinions.
Here is how I would put together a match day outfit that survives the heat and still feels put together.

Start with breathable fabrics
This is the whole ballgame. Cotton, linen, and moisture wicking fabrics will save your life out there, while anything thick or synthetic will betray you by halftime. A flowy cotton sundress or a loose tee with shorts keeps the air moving and the misery low.
Wear your team, comfortably
You can absolutely rep your colors without a heavy jersey. A lightweight tee in your team’s color, or a cute top that just happens to match, keeps you in the spirit without the sweat. Save the official jersey for evening matches when it cools down a touch.
Shoes you can stand and walk in
You will walk from far away parking, climb stairs, and stand to celebrate goals, so this is not the day for new sandals or anything with a heel. Broken in white sneakers are my forever pick. Cute, cushioned, goes with everything.

Protect yourself from the sun
Hours in direct sun is no joke. A wide brim sun hat, a good pair of polarized sunglasses, and plenty of SPF 50 sunscreen are the difference between a great day and a lobster red, headachey one. Reapply more than you think.
Pack a smart, compliant bag
Most big stadiums run a clear bag policy, so bring a stadium approved clear bag and skip the gate drama. Inside, stash sunscreen, a portable charger, lip balm with SPF, and a refillable water bottle. I go deeper on bag essentials in a separate post.
Plan for a temperature swing
Day games are scorchers, but evening matches can cool off and the air conditioning indoors anywhere can be aggressive. A light layer you can tie around your waist covers you both ways without weighing you down.
The takeaway
For a World Cup match in KC heat, choose breathable fabrics, rep your colors in something light, wear comfy sneakers, and armor up against the sun. Nail those and you get to be the friend who looks adorable and is somehow not melting. That is the goal.
Stay cool out there, literally. xo, Pam
