Where to Stay in Kansas City for the World Cup
If you are coming to Kansas City for the World Cup, welcome, we are so glad you picked us. One of the first questions I keep getting from out of town friends is simple, where should we stay. As a local, I have thoughts, because the right neighborhood can completely change your trip.
First and most important piece of advice, book now. Hotels across the metro are filling fast for match dates, and the closer we get, the slimmer the pickings. Here is how I would think about it.

Downtown and the Power and Light District
If you want to walk out your door into the action, stay downtown. You are close to the Fan Festival at the WWI Museum, the streetcar line, restaurants, and the buzzy Power and Light District where everyone gathers to watch games. This is my pick for first time visitors who want to be in the middle of it all.
The Crossroads Arts District
Just south of downtown, the Crossroads is artsy, walkable, and full of incredible local restaurants and coffee shops. It is on the streetcar line too, so you get a slightly more laid back home base without giving up convenience. Great for travelers who like a neighborhood feel.

The Country Club Plaza
The Plaza is our beautiful Spanish inspired shopping and dining district, and it is a lovely place to stay if you want something a little more polished. It is a quick drive or rideshare from downtown, with gorgeous architecture, great restaurants, and good hotels. I always send couples here.
Near the stadium and the east side
If your main goal is easy access to Arrowhead, look at hotels out toward Independence and the eastern metro. You trade walkability for a shorter trip to the Truman Sports Complex on match days, which some fans will happily take. Just know you will likely drive or rideshare to get downtown.
Consider the suburbs and a rental
Do not sleep on staying in Overland Park, Lenexa, or other suburbs if downtown is booked or pricey. They are clean, easy, and a manageable drive in. A vacation rental can also be a smart move for families or groups who want a kitchen and a little more room to spread out.
The takeaway
For first timers who want to walk to everything, stay downtown or in the Crossroads. For a polished feel, the Plaza. For stadium access, the eastern metro. And whatever you choose, book it sooner rather than later, because this city is going to be full. We cannot wait to host you.
See you soon, KC is ready for you. xo, Pam
