Where to Watch the World Cup in KC if You Don’t Have Tickets

Not everyone is going to score tickets to a match at Arrowhead this summer, and honestly, that is completely fine. Some of my favorite memories of big sporting moments happened on a patio with friends and a basket of fries, not in the stadium. So if you are watching the World Cup from somewhere other than the stands, here is where to go in Kansas City to actually feel like you are part of it.

The right room full of people makes a match feel huge, even on a screen.

The Power and Light District is the easy answer

If you want the wall to wall screens, the roar of a crowd, and zero effort, downtown is your spot. The Power and Light District is built for exactly this. No Other Pub has a ton of TVs, a fun energetic crowd, and games like shuffleboard if your group gets restless at halftime. McFadden’s is just down the way with that classic sports bar feel if you want something a little more low key.

The big draw is Kansas City Live!, the covered courtyard in the middle of it all. Giant screens, loud in the best way, and a whole cluster of bars and food spots so nobody in your group has to compromise. It is the closest thing to stadium energy without a ticket.

If you want a patio

When the weather cooperates, and in June it usually does until it suddenly does not, a patio is the move. Tom’s Town has comfy patio seating right in the Kansas City Live! area, so you get the open air without losing the big screen energy. Get there early on a match day, because the good outdoor seats are first come first served and everyone has the same idea.

The free Fan Festival is the real secret

Here is the one I am most excited about, and it does not cost a thing. The FIFA Fan Festival is set up on the south lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial, and it runs for 18 days, June 11 through July 11. There is a massive video board, around 45 feet wide, showing the matches, plus live music, food from local vendors, and the kind of buzzy crowd energy you cannot manufacture.

Free, outdoors, and full of people from all over. The Fan Festival might be the best deal in town this summer.

Admission is free, but you do need to grab a general admission pass in advance, and entry is first come first served once they hit capacity. So register early and show up early, especially for the big matches. There are also paid premium areas if you want shade and a comfier setup, but the free GA is genuinely great.

A few tips before you go

Whichever spot you pick, the same rules apply. The marquee matches fill up fast, so arrive well before kickoff. Bring cash for tips, plan your ride home in advance since downtown and Crown Center will be busy, and if you are doing the Fan Festival, treat it like an outdoor event with sunscreen and water.

The takeaway

You do not need a ticket to feel the World Cup in Kansas City this summer. Grab your people, pick a patio or post up at the free Fan Festival, and let the city do the rest. Some of the best nights are the ones you did not pay a fortune for.

Where are you planning to watch? Drop your favorite KC spot in the comments, I am building my own list and my calendar has room.

See you out there, KC. Pam
