Whipped Feta Dip with Hot Honey

Okay, can we talk about the appetizer that has saved me at every summer get together this year? It is whipped feta with hot honey, and I am not being dramatic when I say people crowd around it like it owes them money. I have brought it to a backyard cookout, a book club, and a random Tuesday when my mom came over, and every single time the plate comes home scraped clean.

The best part is that it takes about ten minutes and makes you look like you tried way harder than you did. That is my favorite kind of recipe, the kind that punches above its weight while I am still in my cutoffs.

Why you will love it

It is creamy and tangy and a little sweet and a little spicy all at once, which means it hits every note your brain wants at a party. It comes together in one food processor, so cleanup is basically nothing. It sits happily at room temperature, so you are not babysitting it. And it looks gorgeous on the table with almost zero effort, which for me is the whole ballgame. If you have ever wished you had a signature thing you bring, let this be it.

What you need

You want a block of real feta here, not the pre crumbled kind, because the block melts into something so much silkier. Cream cheese and a little Greek yogurt smooth it all out, olive oil gives it richness, and fresh lemon and garlic wake it up. Then hot honey does the heavy lifting on top. I keep a jar of hot honey in the pantry at all times now, and if you do not have one yet, grab a good one, it is a game changer on everything from pizza to fried chicken. A jar of hot honey and a decent food processor are the only two things you really need to nail this. The full amounts are in the recipe card below.

How to make it

This is almost too easy to write out, but here is the whole thing. Everything except the honey goes in the food processor, and then you let it run. The secret is patience, you blend it a full two to three minutes, scraping down the sides, until it goes from grainy to genuinely fluffy. That long blend is the difference between fine and oh wow. Spread it on a plate with the back of a spoon, make some pretty swooshes so the honey has somewhere to pool, then drizzle the hot honey and a little more olive oil right before you serve. That is it. Step by step amounts and timing are all in the card.

Whipped Feta Dip with Hot Honey

Creamy, tangy whipped feta blended silky smooth, spread on a plate and finished with a drizzle of warm hot honey. The easiest crowd pleaser for a Kansas City summer cookout or a last minute get together.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 6 servings
Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: Greek

Ingredients

  • 8 oz block feta cheese not pre-crumbled, drained
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil plus more for serving
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1 clove garlic grated
  • 3 tbsp hot honey store bought or homemade
  • Flaky salt and cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Warm pita, crackers, and sliced vegetables, for serving

Method

  1. Add the drained feta, softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon zest and juice, and grated garlic to a food processor.
  2. Blend for 2 to 3 full minutes, scraping down the sides once or twice, until the mixture is completely smooth and fluffy. Do not rush this part, the long blend is what makes it silky.
  3. Taste and season with flaky salt and cracked pepper. It probably will not need much salt since feta is salty on its own.
  4. Spread the whipped feta onto a shallow plate or wide bowl, using the back of a spoon to make swooshes that catch the honey.
  5. Drizzle generously with hot honey and a little extra olive oil right before serving. Serve with warm pita, crackers, and vegetables.

Notes

Make it ahead: the dip keeps in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. Wait to drizzle the honey until right before serving so it stays glossy. Let it sit out about 15 minutes to soften before you serve.

Tips, swaps, and make ahead

Make it ahead and you are basically hosting on easy mode. The dip keeps in the fridge for up to three days, just wait to add the honey until right before serving so it stays glossy. Pull it out about fifteen minutes early so it softens back up. If you like more heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes into the honey. If you are serving a crowd, double it, it disappears faster than you think. And for dippers, I love warm pita, buttery crackers, and whatever is crisp and in season, cucumber rounds and bell pepper strips are perfect for a Kansas City July.

The takeaway

If you take one thing into cookout season, let it be this dip. It is the rare recipe that is genuinely quick, genuinely impressive, and genuinely gone before the burgers are even off the grill. Make it once and I promise it becomes the thing people ask you to bring.

Did you make it? Tell me what you dipped and whether your plate came home empty too, drop it in the comments, my cart always has room.

So glad you are here.
xo, Pam
