Wonton Soup with Pork Dumplings

Wonton Soup with Pork Dumplings

There is something genuinely comforting about a bowl of wonton soup made from scratch. I know it sounds like a project but folding wontons is actually very meditative and the whole thing comes together in about 40 minutes. The broth is light and fragrant with ginger and the pork wontons are tender and savory. This has become one of my favorite things to make on a cold Kansas City evening.

Why You’ll Love This

  • Homemade wontons have incredible texture
  • Light, ginger-fragrant broth is deeply warming
  • Impressive dinner party starter
  • Fun to make with kids — folding is easy once you get the hang of it

Ingredients

  • ground pork
  • wonton wrappers
  • ginger
  • soy sauce
  • sesame oil
  • chicken broth
  • bok choy

How to Make It

Mix ground pork with grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sliced green onions. Place a small teaspoon of filling in each wonton wrapper, wet edges, fold into a triangle, and bring the base corners together. Simmer chicken broth with ginger slices. Cook wontons in batches 3-4 minutes until they float. Add bok choy in the last minute. Finish with sesame oil and soy sauce.

What I Use: A good Large Soup Pot is essential for making big batches.
