World Cup 2026 in Kansas City: A Local Mom’s Guide to the Whole Wild Summer
I have lived in and around Kansas City almost my whole life, and I cannot remember the city ever buzzing quite like this. The World Cup is here, y’all. The actual, real, biggest sporting event on the planet is happening in our backyard, and six matches are being played right here at Arrowhead. I keep catching myself grinning at stoplights.
If you are a local trying to figure out what any of this means for your summer, or you have family flying in and you are suddenly the designated tour guide, this is your friendly little overview. Consider it the lay of the land before we get into the nitty gritty in the rest of my World Cup posts.

Yes, the World Cup is really in Kansas City
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and it runs from June 11 through July 19. Kansas City is one of the 16 host cities, which still feels a little surreal to type. Our matches are played at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, which FIFA refers to as Kansas City Stadium during the tournament.
Six matches, right here
KC is hosting six matches in total. Four are group stage games on June 16, June 20, June 25, and June 27. Then we get two knockout round games, one on July 3 and a quarterfinal on July 11. A quarterfinal in Kansas City. I will never get over it.
I break down the full schedule, the teams, and kickoff times in my dedicated match schedule post, so pop over there if you are trying to plan which days to take off work.

You do not need a match ticket to feel the magic
This is the part I want every local to hear. Match tickets are pricey and hard to get, but the FIFA Fan Festival is free and open to the public. It is set up on the south lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial downtown, running from June 11 through July 11, with a giant video board, live music, food, and that big communal energy you cannot fake.
The lineup of performers is genuinely stacked, and the whole thing is one of the prettiest spots in the city to begin with. I have a full Fan Festival guide if you want the details on getting in and what to expect.

What this means for daily life in KC
Real talk, traffic and parking downtown and near the stadium are going to be a thing on match days. The streetcar, Union Station, and rideshare will be your friends. Restaurants will be busier, hotels are booked solid, and the whole metro is going to feel like one long block party for a month.
My honest advice is to lean in. Take the kids to the Fan Festival one evening. Pick a team to adopt. Host a watch party. This kind of summer does not come around often, and we get a front row seat.
The takeaway
Kansas City spent years dreaming about this, and now it is actually happening. Whether you score a seat at Arrowhead or just soak it up from a patio downtown, you are living through a pretty special chapter of our city’s story. I will be sharing watch party ideas, what to wear, where to eat, and all my visitor tips all summer long, so stick with me.
Soaking up every minute of it right beside you. xo, Pam
